Through the journey Skul became the reason peace was established with the humans only knowing him as the new Demon King. At the end Skul came face to face with the First Hero who had imprisoned the Demon King who swore to kill every single demon, with Skul being able to be victorious and being told of his past. Over his journey to save the Demon King, Skul overcame many obstacles: he freed a corrupted forest, defeated entire armies, the corrupted holy Leonia Order, and a giant corrupted chimera who was planned to become the vessel of the goddess. Skul died again but brought himself back to life in order to save his friend. The reunion was short lived with the First Hero of Carleon launching an all out attack on the demon castle which killed or imprisoned all the those who inhabited the castle. Skul came back to life as a skeleton and soon became friends with the Demon King with the loss of his memory. While alive Skul was murdered due to witnessing the corruption in the kingdom of Carleon, with the Demon King being blamed for the child's death.

Run through smashing enemies, collect loot, upgrade your character, collect Skulls to turn into something entirely different and run through some more. So far Skul: The Hero Slayer has provided a nice gameplay loop, one that's pretty satisfying. They've also simplified the stats system to now only have Physical and Magical attack types, with Physical / Magical / True damage types to make it clearer with any items exactly what you'll be getting and where. When beating each area, you're now given the option of entering one of two different doors that get split between Gold, an Item or a new Skull. Yep, that looks like a Dead Cells character!Īdditionally, the team at SouthPAW Games have tweaked the game to have a new Reward System. This brings in the Prisoner from Dead Cells, as a Unique level Skull it's going to be quite difficult to find. With the latest update, they mentioned they worked with the Dead Cells team to do a bit of a crossover character. It's currently in Early Access and they've continued expanding all parts of it since the initial release in February. High quality pixel-art, mixed with fast-paced action and a lot of variety in the enemies you encounter make it stand out against so many others. Skul is firmly unique though, thanks to the Skull swapping feature that sees you take on many different forms.

Skul: The Hero Slayer just got a big update with a Dead Cells crossover character ability, not that I needed any excuse to jump back into Skul: The Hero Slayer.Īs far as rogue-lite action platformers go, Skul: The Hero Slayer has so far been pretty great and definitely reminds me of Dead Cells.
